Update on my earnings... $10.85
And my friend just gave me 3 more bags of recyclables. She wants to recycle, but she doesn't have time to do it herself. Oh well, her loss, my gain.
I'm trying to get her to recycle other items through our Condo complex recycling bins. She says that's a little too much work/effort, but I'm going to keep working on her. I think I can get her to start recycling a little more. It's not that hard, the recycling bin is right next to the trash bin.

Trying to convince the non-recyclers to recycle is quite the challenge, isn't it?
There is a recycling program going in soon at my mother-in-laws house and although a lot of the waste that she generates is recyclable (mostly paper, glass and metal), she has already stated that "she doesn't have time" to do it, even before the bins have arrived.
If you make it a habit, it becomes something that just is part of your day. Plus, if you position your bins carefully, or rely on intermediate plastic bags for transport, it can an easy process.
Plus - how much time does she need to spend already in bagging the garbage and taking it out to the big garbage can (which is outside in the cold Chicago weather, mind you)?
Consuming less in the first place is excellent (not talking about food so much as other possessions). Also, I by products that have less impact on the environment, such as no or limited wrapping. Still, it can be hard to find that. Reuse and recycling are the last resort, and are very important as well. Recent example: I moved and needed some kitchen implements such as a soup spoon and a spatula. I got them made of wood (plus a soup ladle made of metal). I feel so good with my wooden and metal tools - no plastic here. It pleases my eyes and my heart, and since trees regrow and metal can be 100% recycled, I feel it has less impact on the planet.
